The MED will soon adopt new and amended rules for the decontamination and remediation of regulated marijuana. Colorado producers will be required to re-test remediated or decontaminated product (flower, wet whole plant or trim) for microbial, mycotoxin and water activity*. Producers have the option of destroying, decontaminating in-house or sending product to a third party for decontamination.
The new rule also features updates to the following terms:
- Decontamination
Now defined as “neutralization or removal of dangerous substances or other contaminants from regulated marijuana without changing the form of the regulated marijuana.” - Remediation
Now defined as “neutralization or removal of dangerous substances or other contaminants from regulated marijuana while changing the form of the regulated marijuana.”
